Royal audience to new envoys

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday presented letters of credentials to two newly appointed ambassadors of Brunei to Japan and Saudi Arabia and received credentials from three newly appointed diplomats of friendly nations to the country. The function took place at the Istana Nurul Iman.

His Majesty presented credentials to Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Adnan bin Buntar, the newly appointed Ambassador of Brunei to Japan and Pg Hj Jabaruddin bin Pg Hj Mohd Salleh, the newly appointed Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

His Majesty also received credentials from three new diplomats of friendly nations to the country. They were Mr Patrick Bonneville of the Republic of France; Abdel Rahman Hamza Elrayah Hamza of the Republic of Sudan; and Folco de Luca Gabrielli of Italy.

His Majesty later granted audiences to the new envoys.

Present at the ceremony were Pehin Dato Hj Awg Abu Bakar Apong, Minister of Communications; Pehin Dato Lim Jock Seng, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II; Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Pg Dato Hj Abu Bakar and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pg Dato Hj Sallehuddin.

Meanwhile, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, yesterday granted audiences at the Balai Penghadapan, Bukit Kayangan, to the three new foreign envoys to the country.

His Royal Highness welcomed the three new envoys and also discussed bilateral matters with them.

Prior to his appointment, Mr Patrick Bonneville was the Director of the Reception Centre for Foreign Press of the Department of Communications and Information at the Head Office in Paris. Ambassadors Abdel Rahman Hamza Elrayah Hamza and Folco de Luca Gabrielli are currently based in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore respectively. - Borneo Bulletin (12th August 2005)
