Royal audience to new envoys

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday consented to receive credential letters from four newly appointed envoys of friendly nations to the country.

It was held at the Istana Nurul Iman. The monarch later granted separate audience to the envoys, namely Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Datuk Ali B Abdullah, Ambassador Bantole Yaba of the Republic of Benin, Ambassador Yousif Rashid Alsharhan of United Arab Emirates, and Ambassador Eugeniusz Sawicki of the Republic of Poland.

In a separate session, Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pg Anak Hjh Saleha also consented to grant audience to Datin Hjh Arbi Hj Abd Rahman, spouse of the Brunei Ambassador to Thailand, and Sawsan HM Husein, wife of the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Brunei.

Meanwhile, Minister of Foreign Affairs HRH Prince Mohamed Bolkiah also granted audience to the newly appointed envoys at the Balai Penghadapan in Bukit Kayangan.

HRH Prince Mohamed Bolkiah welcomed the foursome and discussed bilateral matters.

Prior to his appointment, High Commissioner Datuk Ali was the Malaysian Ambassador to Ireland.

Ambassadors Bantole Yaba, Yousif Rashid Alsharhan and Eugenuisz Sawicki are currently based in Tokyo, Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur respectively. - Borneo Bulletin (1st Apr 2005)
