Sultan at prayer for late state dignitary

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday morning attended a prayer at the residence of the late 83 year-old Pengiran Setia Jaya Cikgu Pg Hj Abd Momin bin Pg Othman, a state dignitary who passed away on Thursday.

Also present were His Royal Highness Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince, HRH Prince Abdul Malik and HRH Princess Hjh Masna.

The late PSJ Pg Hj Abd Momin was a member of the Privy Council. He leaves behind 17 children. He was born in Kg. Bakut Cina, Pekan Lama in Kg. Ayer on 9th March 1923.

The late PSJ Pg Hj Abd Momin began his career in 1939 as a trainee teacher. He was assigned to Sekolah Melayu Pekan Brunei before undergoing a teaching course in Maktab Perguruan Sultan Idris Tanjung Malim, Perak in 1941.

He was elected as a member of the Legislative Council, Islamic Legislative Council, Legal committee, Haj Advisory, Adat-Istiadat and Scholarship committee where he was directly involved in selecting students to attend Aljuneid Arabic School and the entry of students into Government English School.

He was bestowed with the honorific Cheteria in 1969. He also functioned as the Confidential Secretary to His Majesty and Ambassador to Indonesia. He received a Meritorous award on 23rd September 1995 and the Anugerah Bakti Hijrah for 1422 Hijrah. - Borneo Bulletin (11th Mar 2006)
