Sultan leads Prophet's b'day procession

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday led a procession around the capital to mark Prophet Muhammad's (pbuh) birthday celebration.

Also present were His Royal Highness Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, HRH Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, HRH Prince Abdul Azim, HRH Prince Abdul Malik, and HRH Prince Abdul Mateen.

Upon arrival, the monarch was greeted by Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Dato Dr Ustaz Hj Awg Mohd Zain and executive committee members of major Islamic calendar of events 1427 Hijrah.

The ceremony began with a reading of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the State Mufti.

It was followed by a speech by the minister, who is also the chairman of the event's executive committee.

Some 154 teams took part in the 4.3-kilometre procession and they comprised officials from ministries, schools, uniformed personnel and members of the private sector. - Borneo Bulletin (12th Apr 2006)
