Kg Tanah Jambu & Kg Salar gear up for Sultan's 60th b'day celebrations
By Achong Tanjong

The Consultative Council of Kampong Tanah Jambu/Kampong Salar has lined up various sporting activities to further enliven His Majesty's 60th Birthday celebrations this year.

One such sports activity is the Old Model Car Race Open - the most awaited event of old model cars racing fans not only locally but also from neighbouring states of Sabah and Sarawak. The event will be open for rear- and front-wheel-drive cars only.

This was discussed at the Executive Committee members meeting chaired by Hj Asar bin Hj Beruddin, village head of Kg Tanah Jambu recently. The race is expected to be held in early August in conjunction with His Majesty's 60th Birthday celebrations at the Kg Tanah Jambu man-made track.

Other sporting events include Motor-Cross Open and other sideline activities such as "Badang Brunei" or Brunei Strongmen competition. The competition involves team members of the two competing teams pushing each other while holding on to a log, whereby the team who could push the other beyond the line will walk away as the winners.

The competition received encouraging response from the public during the 22nd National Day celebration earlier this year.

Among other activities is a bazaar selling various hand-made products from the villages.

Meanwhile, the villages will also organise a House Arch Competition for residents of Kg Tanah Jambu and Kg Salar, with the objective of adding colour to the festive celebration. The competition is expected to be held from 1st July till August. - Borneo Bulletin (14th June 2006)
