Grand 60th Birthday

This year's 60th Birthday of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam holds the promise of an even grander occasion, with the numerous new events been planned by the National Committee for the 60th Birthday Celebration.

The fourth meeting of the National Committee on His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam 60th Birthday Celebration has revealed some of the festivities.

The meeting which took place at the Ceremonial Hall of Lapau in Bandar Seri Begawan, was yesterday morning chaired by Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Paduka Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Yussof, the Minister of Home Affairs, in his capacity as the chairperson of the National Committee on His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam 60th Birthday Celebration.

Among the agenda discussed are the final reports on the preparation of proposed format in the performances and programmes for the His Majesty's Get-Together Ceremony with local communities in the four districts namely Brunei Muara District, Belait District, Tutong District and Temburong District. The dates of the ceremony are still undisclosed.

The National Committee also heard final reports on preparation of International Tattoo Performance 2006, Majlis Kesyukuran, Concert Dirgahayu Emas, International Halal products Expo and Malam Rumpun Seri 60.

One of the new events on the calendar is the International Tattoo Performance, a martial music and military performance scheduled from July 29-31 at the Hasssanal Bolkiah National Stadium. Some 12 countries are expected to participate namely, Australia, China, Indonesia, Jordan, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, the United Kingdom, Vietnam and the host country, Brunei Darussalam.

Other festive activities at district level include jet ski, high power engine fans and boat tournament which will fall on August 13 2006, Asean Kite Tournament (date to be confirm) and a Gasing Tournament (July 28-30) for Brunei Muara District.

For Belait District, there will be long-distance control boats race on August 6 and Classic Rakit competition on August 13, while in Tutong District, a Motocross and Endurance Competition will take place August 6.

Within Temburong District, a Borneo ethic cultural performance which will take place from August 25-29. - Borneo Bulletin (14th May 2006)
