The Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) yesterday celebrated its 45th anniversary in style, bringing to the public magnificent field performances and parade at the Taman Sir Muda Hj Omar Ali Saiduddien in the capital.

Themed "Competitiveness in Strengthening National Defence", the celebration was graced by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Supreme Commander of RBAF.

Also present was HRH Prince General Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince.

Other royal members in attendance were HRH Prince 'Abdul Malik, HRH Prince 'Abdul Azim, and HRH Prince 'Abdul Mateen.

Months of rehearsals paid off for RBAF personnel who participated in the celebration as they executed their performances with precision, proving their unshakable teamwork.

There was also a parade showcasing RBAF military vehicles at the heart of the capital.

Personnel also demonstrated their search-and-rescue techniques and other manoeuvres at the Brunei River.

Later, public members took the opportunity to meet their monarch, who is also the Minister of Defence, as well as other members of the royal family.

Even light showers during the ceremony failed to dampen the spirit of the public as they snapped photographs of the colourful, mass spectacle that marked a milestone for the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. - Borneo Bulletin (1st June 2006)
