His Majesty leads walk at Bukit Shahbandar
By Azlan Othman

Around 1,000 government officials yesterday joined His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malik for a brisk walk around Bukit Shahbandar Recreational Park.

The walking activity for government ministries was jointly organised by the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources and Ministry of Health along with the Prime Minister's Office.

His Majesty was greeted upon arrival at around 7.40am yesterday by Minister of Industry and Primary Resources Pehin Dato Dr Awg Hj Ahmad and Minister of Health Pehin Dato Paduka Hj Suyoi.

Participants could either go for a 1.9km trek or the more challenging 3.5km route over rough terrain and steep hills.

Officials from the Armed Forces and the Forestry Department as well as paramedics were stationed at various points. Signs leading to the last point of the walk, the ninth hill, were clearly indicated.

Bukit Shahbandar Recreational Park is a popular health and leisure spot among Bruneians especially during the weekends and public holidays.

Long lines of vehicles were parked along the sides of the highway that stretched as far as the Empire Hotel & Country Club and the entrance to Jalan Jerudong yesterday. - Borneo Bulletin (20th Feb 2006)
