Agri fair promotes entrepreneurship among PITA members
By Hussin HJ

Koperasi Ladang Komunal of Kg Tanah Jambu Berhad and its association (PITA) is organising a three-day fair in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan's 60th birthday celebration at the compound of the cooperative body's multipurpose hall in Kg Tanah Jambu.

The fair, which started on Saturday, was officially opened by the Acting Director of BINA, Pg Sharifuddin Pg Hj Matali. In his speech, the chief guest praised members of the organising committee for their continuous involvement in promoting their agricultural products and urged members to channel their products through their own cooperative body as the main outlet for marketing strategies.

He added that the government has allocated a total of 25 hectares of land for sweet orange and coconut plantations in the rural agricultural development projects under the Sultanate's ongoing economic diversification programmes. This is in tandem with the government's policy of green environment (bumi hijau) as fruits and vegetables could be locally grown and produced in abundance.

Earlier, the co-chairman of the event, Awg Haji Muhammad Sukaimi gave a welcoming speech highlighting the objectives of the fair as an approach to develop entrepreneurship and the economic well-being of its members.

Prizes to the winners in various competitions were presented by the chief guest. Locally made handicrafts, flowers, fruits, vegetables and other items are some of the products on display for sale until today. - Borneo Bulletin (21st August 2006)
