The Kampung Tanah Jambu, Salar Consultative Council has come up with a unique way of flying 113 national flags hung out from lampposts in the street along Kampung Tanah Jambu up to Kg Salar in the Brunei-Muara District.

The flag placing ceremony was held on Friday night by the residents of the villages headed by Village Head Hj Asar bin Hj Beruddin covering a distance of three kilometres. Also present were executive committee members of the Villages Consultative Council.

According to an executive committee member of the Villages Consultative Council, Hj Abd Wahab, the objective of the hoisting of the national flags - the first of its kind this year - was to answer the calls from the members of the Executive Committee of His Majesty's 60th birthday celebration.

At the same time, it was to demonstrate the people's patriotic spirit to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan as well as to the country. He added that it was to enliven the atmosphere of this year's grand celebration

Like in the previous year, the villages have also erected an arch in front of the junction to the village head's residence.

More activities will be held in conjunction with the celebration including sports festivals to be participated by locals as well as those from neigbouring countries. - Borneo Bulletin (2nd July 2006)
