Starry night at Belait Mega Concert
By Liza Mohd

Thousands of people flocked the Padang Bandaran Kuala Belait on Tuesday night, and grooved to the sounds of dangdut performed by Konsert Dangdut Indonesia (Indonesian Dangdut Concert - KDI) season III champion Lola, and two KDI season II top-10 contestants Devi and Fanny, during the 'Mega Concert Gemilang Gemerlapan 60'.

The concert attracted dangdut fans from the other districts and across the border as well, and was organised in conjunction with His Majesty's 60th birthday celebrations.

Lola enthralled the crowd with her rendition of popular dangdut numbers like 'Gelisah' and 'Mimpi Terindah', songs which led to her victory in the KDI contest this year. She later sang a duet with Devi.

Meanwhile, Fanny delighted the crowd by getting off the stage to greet his fans. Devi and Fanny later danced to popular songs 'Penasaran', 'Kenangan Terindah', 'Kopi Dangdut', 'Goyang Dompret', 'Juur' and 'Cucuk Rowo'.

Also performing that night were the well-known sisters-duo from Malaysia, Linda and Diana Rafar. The sisters sang 'Hak Milik Kita', which comes from their first album 'Cyss'. The duo - currently in the process of recording their second album - also performed 'Hi Hi Bye Bye', 'Tak Tahu' and 'Yang Mana Satu'.

Another Malaysian artiste at the 'Mega Concert Gemilang Gemerlapan 60' was rising star Biella, a 'protégé' from season I of the popular reality TV show 'Mentor'. Biella, a student at University Technology MARA, sang 'Di Bawah Pohon Asmara', 'Langit ke Tujoh', 'Seindah Biasa' and 'Cobalah Setia'.

All the artistes were accompanied by dancers from BSP and the PEMBELA. association.

Belait bands D'Medley, Aroxter, The Mixture, Emverest and 1st Quarter and young local talents Malai Sany, Nurul Izzah and Nor Fezilah also performed at the gala. - Borneo Bulletin (3rd August 2006)
