'Malam Serumpun Seri 60' committee, participants feted

Organising committee members and participants of the 'Malam Serumpun Seri 60' were treated to an appreciation luncheon yesterday at the Centrepoint Hotel, Gadong.

Guest of honour at the event was Pehin Dato Paduka Awang Haji Adanan, Minister of Home Affairs cum Chairman of the National Committee for His Majesty's 60th Birthday Celebrations.

Also attending the luncheon were Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Dato Paduka Awang Haji Dani; Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry of Home Affairs Dato Paduka Awang Haji Idris bin Haji Belaman and Dato Seri Setia Haji Yusoff bin Hj Ismail; Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Dato Paduka Awang Haji Adnan bin Haji Hanafiah and Brunei-Muara District Officer cum Co-Chairman of the 'Malam Serumpun Seri 60', Dato Paduka Awang Haji Yussop bin Bakar.

In his welcoming speech the minister expressed his appreciation to participants of the 'Malam Serumpun Seri 60' event, held on Saturday night in conjunction with the birthday celebrations of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

Saturday's successful event reflects the close and strong cooperation, as well as symbolises the understanding, commitment and support between the organising committee and participants.

He also hoped that the Asean Invitational Tug-of-War Competition, held Saturday night, would instil a sense of sportsmanship and friendship among Asean countries. The minister hoped all participants had a memorable and enjoyable stay in Brunei Darussalam while experiencing the spectacular, joyous and colourful celebrations on the occasion of His Majesty's 60th birthday.

Pehin Adanan wished participants all the best in their future undertakings adding that he hoped to see them all in the next competition in three years' time.

The minister also extended thanks to Dato Awang Haji Adnan and Dato Awang Haji Yussop, executive co-chairman of the 'Malam Serumpun Seri 60'; Awang Abd Majid bin Alias and Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar bin Pengiran Haji Othman, committee for the cultural performance; Dyg Hjh Airah binti Hj Abdullah, chairman of the committee for the float procession; Pengiran Hj Jadid bin Pg Hj Omarali, chairman of the committee for the Asean Invitational Tug-of-War Competition; Awg Robert Koh, chairman of the committee for the fireworks display and those who contributed to the success of 'Malam Serumpun Seri 60'.
