By Lyna Mohamad & Hj Minor Absah

Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna consented to grace the Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam Peace Day 2007 at the association's headquarters in Kg Anggerek Desa yesterday.

Upon arrival at the Girl Guides headquarters, HRH who is also the President of the association, joined the aerobics session coordinated by Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College and followed with the "Peace Walk".

After the walk, the Peace Day 2007 event began with the singing of the national anthem and the "Dunia Pandu Puteri" (Girl Guides World) and "Rantau Asia Pasifik" (Asia Pacific Region) songs.

It was followed by a welcoming speech from the Deputy Chief Commissioner of Girl Guides, Dyg Hjh Viviyanti Hj Ali, in her capacity as the event's chairman.

She said the Peace Day celebration was first organised in 1991 while the "Peace Walk" was first held in 2002.

Since organising the "Peace Walk" or walkathon, the event continues to be part of the Peace Day celebration as such activity is not only beneficial but showcases the hopes and objectives of the association to support the world organisation's (WAGGGS) efforts to establish peace in this world.

Prior to planting saplings, which was led by HRH, a doa selamat was read by Dyg Hjh Fatimah Hj Abd Ghani, Development Commissioner of the association.

The planting of various saplings at the headquarters is hoped to beautify the environment and at the same time upgrade the knowledge of the members on the various kinds of trees.

Also present at yesterday's event were deputy presidents, chief commissioner, committee members and members of the Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam. - Borneo Bulletin (10th September 2007)
