Princess awards best environment poster winners

Her Royal Highness Princess Majeedah Nuurul Bulqiah consented to grace the closing dinner for the Asean Youth Forum on Environment held last night at the Indera Kayangan Ballroom at the Empire Hotel and Country Club.

The dinner also saw the presentation of prizes by HRH Princess Majeedah to the winning students of the Environment Poster Competition on "What a Clean Environment Means to Me".

Also present at the event was the Minister of Development, Pehin Dato Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Canadian High Commissioner, Mr Leopold Battel and Director of Environment, Parks and Recreation, Haji Mohd Zakaria Haji Serudin.

The overall winner of the poster competition was Siti Lieyana bte Mohd Azffri of Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan who won a crystal trophy and a framed poster.

Maktab Sains was chosen as the winner for the "School with the Most Creative Poster", winning $500 cash and a framed poster and a plaque, received by the principal, Cikgu Pg Hjh Sarah.

Meanwhile, International School Brunei won the "School with the Most Participants" prize, winning a prize money of $500 and a plaque, received by Mr David Taylor, Managing Director of ISB.

Prizes were also presented to the winners in the primary and secondary category and to the international participants.

The High Commission of Canada together with the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation under the Ministry of Development launched the 2006 Environment Poster Competition in September 2006.

Over 300 students from 10 schools took part in the poster competition sponsored by the High Commission of Canada, HSBC and CIC Environment Services Sdn Bhd.

The organisers hoped that the event had provided students the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity, talent and flair and also raised school and community awareness on environmental issues. (11th January 2007)
