Residents in Kampong Tungku and its neighbouring villages were treated to a fireworks display on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, sponsored by Awangku Shaiful Bahri and Pengiran Adanan bin PSI Pengiran Haji Ismail, in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of His Majesty the Sultan's accession to the throne.

Thousands of people gathered at the residence of YAM Pengiran Seri Indera Pengiran Haji Ismail in Kg Tungku, where the 30-minute spectacle was held.

Motorists also pulled up by the side of the road to enjoy the stunning display, which lit up the sky in a spectrum of colours.

Meanwhile, the event began with a recital of doa kesyukuran by Pehin Khatib Haji Mustapa.

On hand to launch the event was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah.

Also in attendance were YAM Pengiran Anak Raheemah Sanaul Bolkiah, YAM Pengiran Anak Hariisah Widadul Bolqiah and other members of the royal family.

Awangku Shaiful Bahri, in his welcoming remarks, said, "With the blessings from Allah and under the leadership of His Majesty, we are thankful that our country is able to celebrate Hari Raya in peace and harmony. We should be aware that what we are enjoying now is a privilege, a blessing from Allah."

In addition to the grand fest, some 53 orphans also received donations from YAM Pengiran Seri Indera Pengiran Haji Ismail and Pengiran Datin Hajah Aisah binti Pengiran Hashim.

Later, villagers congratulated Awangku Shaiful Bahri and Pengiran Adanan for the successful fireworks display.

The organisers also extended their gratitude to the Royal Brunei Police Force, the Fire and Rescue Department, and the Ministry of Home Affairs for their cooperation. - Borneo Bulletin (15th Oct 2007)
