The National Boat Association of Brunei Darussalam held a speedboat, rowboat, jet ski and remote-controlled boat challenge yesterday at Tutong Riverfront.

The programme, which was held in conjunction with His Majesty's 61st Birthday celebration, was attended by the Acting District Officer of Tutong, Hj Jamain Momin, as the event's chief guest.

It also featured an exhibition and a road show aimed at fostering closer relations with local communities and the district's residents, while encouraging more professionals and enthusiasts in the field to show their skills in various contests, said Committee Chairman Hj Mohd Soffian Hj Umar.

It received cooperation from Tutong's Remote Control Speedboat Association in the hope of attracting more spectators. The venue, meanwhile, will soon be reintroduced as a recreational area for the public after renovation works by relevant authorities are completed.

Champion of the 40 HP (10 rounds) category was Mohd B Hj Morni of the Tiong racing team. The 10-person rowboat (Tutong) was won by the district's RBPF, and Asli Hj Ali from the Tiong racing team again won the Speedboat 30 HP (eight rounds).

In the 15 HP fishing boat category (five rounds), Borin (Red Green) was announced the champion, while the Speedboat SST60 (12 rounds) was won by Abu Jani Ura (Catamaran).

Hj Ali (Hepi Lagi) came first place in the 15 HP racing boat, while the F2 speedboat category (15 rounds) was won by Yanto Kadri (Viking Kuching). - Borneo Bulletin (23rd July 2007)
