More medals for loyal service

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to award honorary medals of Brunei Darussalam to another 689 recipients in conjunction with His Majesty's 60th birthday anniversary.

His Majesty was represented at the ceremony by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office. The ceremony took place at the Balai Singgah Sana Indera Kenchana at Istana Nurul Iman yesterday morning.

Leading the list of awardees were Awang Haji Abdullah bin Haji Muhamad, Awang Haji Aliakbar bin Kalushah and Awang Omar bin Jamaludin, who received the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian, (PJK).

A total of 26 people received the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (PJK) or Meritorious Medals, while 374 people received the Pingat Indah Kerja Baik (PIKB).

Meanwhile, 289 people were awarded the Pingat Kerja Lama (PKL) or Long Service Medals. Among the notable figures receiving the long service medals was Sheikh Jamaluddin bin Sheikh Mohamad.

Among the recipients were government servants from various ministries and departments as well as members of uniformed establishments. Part of the criteria for receiving the medals included undivided loyalty to His Majesty, the nation and religion. Recipients also should maintain a good record in all services with His Majesty's government including in national security and good conduct.

Present at the ceremony were Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria, Cabinet Ministers, Members of Councils, Deputy Ministers and Pehin-Pehin Manteri. Also present were Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Department. (24th January 2007)
