Sultan congratulates Kevin Rudd, new Jordan PM

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to send a congratulatory message on behalf of the Government and people of Brunei Darussalam to Kevin Rudd upon his winning the recent elections in Australia.

In the message, His Majesty wished Rudd much success in his new post and looked forward to working together to strengthen the excellent relations between Brunei and Australia bilaterally and as partners in the Asia Pacific region.

His Majesty also sent a congratulatory message to Nader Dahabi on his appointment as the new Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

His Majesty wished Nader Dahabi much success in his new post and looked forward to working together to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Prime Minister Nader Dahabi, a former air force chief who transformed the special economic zone in the Red Sea port of Aqaba into a haven for multi-billion dollar investments, was appointed by King Abdullah to replace Marouf al-Bakheet, who resigned following recent parliamentary elections.

Meanwhile, Australia's Labor Party swept into power at national elections Saturday, propelling 50-year-old former diplomat Rudd into office on a wave of support for generational change. - Borneo Bulletin (27th Nov 2007)
