Belait holds Water Festival

Hundreds of people watched powerboat races during the Water Festival held in Kuala Belait in conjunction with His Majesty's birthday celebration.

The Belait River races were jointly organised by the Customs and Excise Department, Ports Department and Marine Department in Belait.

The chief guest was Deputy Managing Director of Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Hj Zainal Abidin bin Hj Mohd.

Prizes to winners was handed by Belait District Officer Awang Haji Mohamad bin Haji Abdul Rahman.

More than 100 participants competed in 15 powerboat race categories including 15 laps of Jet Ski Runabout 800 stock class race, 15-and 20-person open paddling race, open F2 race, and 30 HP engine class race.

The water boat race at Belait River started yesterday morning and continued till late afternoon with more races. Winners received their prizes at the end of the day's events.

Winning participants and teams received cash prizes of up to $300. - Borneo Bulletin (6th August 2007)
