To mark the forthcoming Holy month of Ramadhan in the Belait District, a total of 53,050 containers of "Mabroom" dates were distributed yesterday morning to private residences of chief and village heads of the seven Mukims in the district.

The dates, given annually, are a personal gift from His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

A vast majority of Muslims worldwide adopt the old traditions practised by Prophet Muhammad SAW (pbuh), which is to consume the dates when breaking fast.

The boxes of dates will be circulated to Muslim residents in the country prior to the Ramadhan month.

Residents in the district can obtain the dates through their chiefs and village leaders. - Borneo Bulletin (15th August 2008)
