His Majesty pardons 3 detainees

With the consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, three detainees who were held under the Internal Security Act for their involvement in leaking government secrets and classified information have been released, RTB reported.

The three Bruneians released were: Awang Hj Haisan bin Hj Mohd Amin, 47; Awang Saiful Bahrin bin Hj Metali, 35; and, Pengiran Mahidi bin Pg Hj Ahmad, 31. They were released after undergoing rehabilitation at the Detention & Rehabilitation Unit in Jerudong.

During a ceremony at the Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque in Sengkurong yesterday, the three men took an oath and showed remorse for their wrongdoings.

They also pledged their allegiance to His Majesty and the Brunei Government and vowed to abide by the laws and regulations of the country.

Among those who witnessed the event were Hj Awg Mohd Mahdi bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Hj Awg Abdul Rahman, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Brunei-Muara District Officer Dato Paduka Awg Hj Mohd Yussof bin Bakar, and other government officials. - Borneo Bulletin (15th July 2008)
