Giant flag to be hoisted as nation gears up for royal b'day celebration

The full dress rehearsal of the hoisting of the giant national flag of Brunei Darussalam was held at the open space of the Yayasan Sultan Hj Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in the capital yesterday.

The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Dewa Pahlawan Dato Paduka Awg Hj Dani bin Hj Ibrahim, as well as the ministry's Permanent Secretaries, Hj Awg Mohd Mahdi bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Hj Abdul Rahman and Pengiran Abdul Haris bin Pengiran Hj Shabudin, were among those who attended the rehearsal.

Today, the Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Hj Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Mohd Yusof, will be handing over the flag, measuring 3.7 metres by 7.3 metres.

The grand event will involve some 60 officers from the Fire & Rescue Department, as well as personnel from the Royal Brunei Navy. The event will be enlivened with the singing of the national anthem.

Songs will also be belted out by students from Berakas Secondary School and Seri Mulia Sarjana School, as well as staff from the Language & Literature Bureau, Brunei-Muara District Office and Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department. - Borneo Bulletin (1st July 2008)
