Sultan visits US Pacific Command HQ in Honolulu

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam is in Honolulu, State of Hawaii for a two-day working visit.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, on the first day of the visit, His Majesty visited the United States Pacific Command Headquarters (USPACOM) located at Camp HM Smith, State of Hawaii.

USPACOM, which was established on January 1, 1974, is the oldest and largest United States' unified command.

Upon arrival at the USPACOM Headquarters, His Majesty was greeted by Lt General Douglas Fraser. His Majesty was given an overview of the PACOM mission and a tour of the Joint Operations Centre.

His Majesty then proceeded to Pearl Harbor and visited the USS Russell class destroyer naval ship.

His Majesty was briefed on the navigational equipment and facilities on board and later toured Pearl Harbor, the release added.

The day concluded with a dinner hosted by Lt General Douglas Fraser.

Also present at the dinner were Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Paduka Hj Mohd Yasmin, Deputy Minister of Defence; and Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awg Halbi, Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces.

His Majesty arrived in Honolulu on November 23 after the conclusion of the Apec Leaders' Meeting in Lima, Peru.Upon arrival at the Hickim Air Force Base, His Majesty was welcomed by the Ambassador of the United States to Brunei Darussalam Mr William E Todd and Deputy Commander US Pacific Command (USPACOM) Lt General Douglas Fraser.

Also present were Brunei's Deputy Minister of Defence, Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces and officials from the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Washington, DC. - Borneo Bulletin (26th Nov 2008)
