Temburong once again celebrated His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 62nd birthday with a Water Festival of dazzlingly lighted boats decorating competition on Temburong River. The festival was the second time held in the district.

The guest of honour attending the festival was Superintendant Awang Lim Tim Chui, OCPD Deputy Chairman II of the Police Department and the festival was run and chaired by Haji Abd Rahman bin Merusin, the District Commisioner of Temburong Scout Association.

The festival started at 8pm and 27 participants joined in to show off their decorated boats. This year's festival attracted many registrations.

Co-secretary Ronnie Siabu said, "Preparation and thorough planning for the festival was already done in early January this year. Participation from the people also has increased compared to last year. The fireworks is the main event to spice up the festival. It is sponsored by one local businessman in the district."

The judges for the competition were Merusin bin Haji Hashim, Norfadilah bin Haji Jumat, Mohidin bin Haji Matusin dan Mohd Ariffin bin Haji Matusin.

A live band was also set up where some people, especially the teenagers, tried their best to perform songs on stage.

It was held at the new Bumiputra building. Some stalls were set up selling food and drinks taking the opportunity to earn some money with the crowd pulled in by event. - Borneo Bulletin (27th July 2008)
