His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday afternoon consented to receive in audience the Asean Police Chiefs at the Istana Nurul Iman.

Accompanying the Asean Police Chiefs were Pehin Datu Kerma Setia Dato Paduka Seri Awang Zainuddin bin Jalani, Commissioner of Royal Brunei Police Force.

The Asean Police Chief will be in the Sultanate for three days to attend the 28th ASEANAPOL.

Also present during the audience ceremony are ASEANAPOL dialogue partners from Australia, China, Korea, Japan and New Zealand, as well as a representative from the Asean secretariat, as a special invited guest for the ASEANAPOL meeting.

Brunei has hosted the ASEANAPOL meeting ever since the Royal Brunei Police Force became a full member of the ASEANAPOL in the year 1984. Brunei, to host its fourth this year, had also hosted the ASEANAPOL in 1998, 1992 and 1986.

The meeting, held annually, is aimed at discussing policing issues and mutual benefits, as well as strengthening policing cooperation in general among the Asean Police Force in maintaining the peace and security among the Asean region. - Borneo Bulletin (27th May 2008)
