The hoisting of national flag was yesterday held at Mendara Cendera Kenangan, Kuala Belait ahead of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 62nd birthday celebrations on July 15.
Some 200 people, comprising government officials, representatives from the private sector, village heads, teachers and students, gathered at the recreational area to take part in the ceremony that marked the beginning of the royal celebration.
The event began with a convoy, led by Belait District Officer Awang Haji Mohamad bin Haji Abdul Rahman, carrying a giant national flag, which was then handed over to Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence and chief guest Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Majid bin Mangarshah.
The permanent secretary then handed the flag over to the Royal Brunei Police Force and it was hoisted to the singing of the national anthem and national flag song, by a choir team and members of the Belait Scouts Association band.
The ceremony ended with the distribution of national flags and posters by the guest of honour to mukim chiefs in the district.
Meanwhile, business establishments, government and private buildings, and private residences are urged to hoist the national flag to greet the upcoming royal birthday celebration.
