His Majesty's 62nd Birthday celebration's get-together with the community is a golden opportunity for the people to demonstrate their appreciation and undivided loyalty towards their ruler, who has always shown concern for the welfare, development and harmony of citizens within the country.

This was highlighted by Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohd Yusof in his welcoming remarks at a meeting between the National Committee and Tutong District Committee for the event yesterday at the Tutong Civic Centre's main hall.

The minister, who is also Chairman of the National Committee, stated that the get-together reflects the warm and friendly relations between His Majesty and community members, which is unique and part of Brunei's heritage, consistent with the MIB philosophy.

Furthermore, this has a positive impact, while maintaining the country's prosperity and solidarity. "On top of this, our unique way of celebrating has impressed other communities outside the country, especially tourists, who also take the opportunity to meet and greet His Majesty," he said.

Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan highlighted that "Today's meeting is aimed at exploring and discussing the final preparations and developments that are currently being carried out".

"Today's positive discussion hopes to improve the planning of upcoming events and activities that promise to make the programmes even merrier."

The discussion was based on two main upcoming events - the get-together and a special performance during the ceremony. Moreover, he stressed that this meeting would demonstrate high commitment and full dedication towards cooperation in running the event.

To enhance the programmes, harmonisation and continuous monitoring from the event coordinators are vital. These are done through practising the method of discussion and compromising agreement followed by immediate action.

He added, "The cooperation and participation by all levels of the community and government agencies, youth associations, NGOs, private sectors, entrepreneurs, educational institutions, students and Tutong residents from various ethnics and cultures may enliven the upcoming event and by doing so, it indirectly shows the unity of the Tutong District's people."

To arouse spirits, the minister mentioned, "The national flag should be put up not only at government agency buildings, but also at private residences."

Also present was Chairperson of the Executive Committee for His Majesty's 62nd Birthday celebration in Tutong, Hj Jamain Momin, who is also the District Officer

Among those who attended the event were Legislative Council members, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Tutong District Committee for His Majesty's 62nd Birthday celebration, the senior government officers of Tutong, penghulus and village heads.

The meeting began with a recitation of the Al-Fatihah and prayers, as well as a speech from the Tutong District Officer. - Borneo Bulletin (3rd June 2008)
