His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia, held a four-eye meeting at Istana Nurul Iman yesterday prior to the landmark signing ceremony of the Exchange of Letters to mark the successful conclusion of negotiations on the resolution of outstanding bilateral issues.
Held behind closed doors, it was understood that the two leaders discussed issues of common interest to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in various sectors.
Earlier yesterday morning, His Majesty, Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Isteri Azrinaz Mazhar received the Malaysian Prime Minister, his wife Datin Seri Jeanne Abdullah and their delegation in an audience.
Also present at the audience were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade; and other members of the royal family.
The Malaysian delegation included Datuk Seri Utama Dr Rais Yatim, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, Minister of Education; Pehin Seri Datuk Petinggi Dr Hj Abdul Taib Mahmud, Sarawak Chief Minister; and Datuk Seri Musa Aman, Chief Minister of Sabah.
The royal family also hosted the visiting Malaysian delegation to a luncheon right after the signing ceremony in their honour.
Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and his delegation, who arrived in Brunei Sunday evening for a two-day working visit, left the country yesterday afternoon.
