Royal congratulatory messages to Japan

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to send a congratulatory message to His Majesty Akuhito, Emperor of Japan on the auspicious occasion of his 76th birthday.

In the message, His majesty expressed his satisfaction with the warm friendship and close co-operation between Brunei and Japan, which have continued to prosper and develop over time. His majesty also hoped the friendship will continue to grow in scope and strength.

In a similar message to Yukio Hatoyama, Prime Minister of Japan, His Majesty expressed his satisfaction with the progress that has been achieved as a result of the Brunei-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement. His Majesty hoped to continue working with the Japanese PM to further enhance the much-valued cooperation between Brunei and Japan as well as its peoples.

His Majesty conveyed his best wishes for the continued good health and happiness of His Majesty Akihito and members of the Imperial Family as well as for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of Japan.

Meanwhile, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Brunei's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, sent a similar message to Katsuya Okada, the Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In his message, he said, "It gives me great pleasure to send my respects to His Majesty, the Emperor and the Imperial family, together with my warmest congratulations to the government and people of Japan on his Imperial Majesty's birthday." - Borneo Bulletin (23rd December 2009)
