Singapore praises Brunei's progress

The President of the Republic of Singapore, S R Nathan, and the people of the Republic of Singapore extended their warmest wishes to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on the auspicious occasion of Brunei's Darussalam 25th National Day.

In the congratulatory message, President S R Nathan said, "Under Your Majesty's leadership, Brunei Darussalam has enjoyed continued stability and prosperity. I am confident that with Your Majesty's esteemed vision and benevolence, Brunei will continue to make significant progress in many areas.

"Our two countries share a special relationship underpinned by close and long-standing personal ties. We also share common perspectives on many regional and international issues and we cooperate across many fields.With Your Majesty's strong support, I am confident that our strong bilateral relations will continue to flourish."

Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong, also sent his warmest congratulations to His Majesty on the occasion of the National Day.

He said, "Brunei Darussalam has enjoyed peace and prosperity under Your Majesty's guidance and leadership. Brunei Darussalam has also made significant contributions to the international and regional arena, especially towards the integration of ASEAN. Singapore and Brunei enjoy excellent and long-standing relations. Our bilateral ties are multifaceted and we cooperate in many areas such as education, finance and defence. We are also cooperating closely in regional and international fora, especially in ASEAN. I am confident that the close friendship between Singapore and Brunei will continue to strengthen under Your Majesty's benevolent and gracious reign."

Meanwhile, Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs, George Yeo, conveyed his warmest congratulations to His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah on the joyous occasion of the 25th National Day of Brunei Darussalam.

He said, "Our two countries share strong and deep bilateral relations. We have cooperated across a broad front and have also worked together on many international and regional issues, especially in ASEAN. Our special ties are reflected in the personal friendship and mutual trust between our leaders, officials and the close people-to-people exchanges. I look forward to meeting you soon at the 14th Brunei-Singapore Exchange Visit and working closely with you to further strengthen our bilateral ties. I wish, Your Royal Highness, HRH Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah and your entire family continued good health, happiness and success." - Borneo Bulletin (23rd Feb 2009)
