National flag hoisted in Tutong District

To mark the start of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 63rd Birthday Celebration in the Tutong District, a flag hoisting ceremony was held at the open area of Paserneka and Tamu Complex in Tutong yesterday.

The guest of honour was Haji Awang Mohd Mahdi bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Hj Awang Abdul Rahman, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

The ceremony began with the marching of a convoy of the Prison Department's brass band, government personnel in Tutong District and cyclists led by Awang Haji Muhammad Suffian bin Hj Bungsu, the Assistant Tutong District Officer, who carried the national flag, to the open area of Paserneka and Tamu Complex from the main road.

Awang Haji Muhammad Suffian bin Hj Bungsu then handed over the national flag to Awang Haji Idris bin Hj Md Ali, the Tutong District Officer who then passed the national flag to Haji Awang Mohd Mahdi bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Hj Awang Abdul Rahman.

The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs then preceded to hand the national flag to police personnel Insp Haji Sawal to start the flag hoisting.

The raising of the national flag was accompanied with the National Anthem and also the song entitled " Bendera Negara dan Rahmat" sung by a choir group comprising staff of the departments and youths from the Tutong District.

The guest of honour then presented flags to the penghulu of each eight mukims in Tutong District.

This year, an array of activities have been lined up to mark His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 63rd Birthday Celebration in Tutong District. The highlight of the celebration is the get-together ceremony with the residents of Tutong District on July 23. Apart from the night stalls, various stage performances will be held at the Community Hall of Tutong Town.

On July 26, an Agra Food Festival, motocross/endurance race, final of seven a side football tournament as well as the final of the futsal game between Mukims and Villages will be held. - Borneo Bulletin (2nd July 2009)
