His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to send messages of condolences to President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Mr Nguyen Minh Triet and also to Prime Minister Mr Nguyen Tan Dung, following the recent loss of life and widespread damage caused by Typhoon Ketsana.

In the message, His Majesty and the People of Brunei Darussalam expressed great sympathy and sent their sincere condolences to the government and people of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and particularly to the bereaved families of the victims of disaster.

Typhoon Ketsana has brought flooding and winds of up to 144kph into central Vietnam on Tuesday, killing at least 23 people and causing some 170,000 people to be evacuated from six central provinces. - Borneo Bulletin (4th October 2009)
