His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said the progress achieved by member countries of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) indicated the existence of the spirit of 'unity and integrity'. And this can only be seen on the strengthening of financial institutions, technology and research.
His Royal Highness delivered a statement during the Asian Cooperation Dialogue Ministerial Meeting in Tehran, Iran, RTB reported.
His Royal Highness emphasised some remarkable successes of ACD in the cultural, artistic, sports and intellectual life. The success, said His Royal Highness, is mainly due to the result of work done by ACD in different regions. His Royal Highness also welcomed the ideas offered by ACD members and hoped the ACD proposals will be a way of getting that message to the people under the spirit of 'Asia Belongs to Us All.'
Earlier, His Royal Highness attended the opening ceremony of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue at the Summit Conference Centre, along with other foreign ministers.
In his opening speech, the Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called for convergence of the Asian countries. He said that Asia is in need of convergence in order to implement its determining responsibility in the world, which is urgently in need of a change in terms of order and conduct. He said countries reaching convergence should be developed in Asia, and a convergent Asia should actively participate in resolving the global issues. He said the existing world order is lacking in efficiency to resolve world issues and to create development, peace and justice.
Later a bilateral meeting was held between His Royal Highness and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. At the meeting, both parties discussed current issues and common interest. Brunei Darussalam became a member of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue in 2002 and Iran joined the ACD in 2004.
