His Majesty at thanksgiving prayers

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam joined thousands of worshippers for thanksgiving prayers at the Jame 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque in Kg Kiarong, last evening.

The event commenced with the arrival of the working committee members and members of the public, followed by state dignitaries and VIP guests.

Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohamad.

Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, His Royal Highness Prince Hj Sufri Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul 'Azim and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik.

Also present during the function was former Malaysian Prime Minister, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Initially, a mass Maghrib prayer was led by Pehin Diraja Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Yahya bin Haji Ibrahim. This was followed by a Sunat Hajat prayer led by Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Awang Haji Salim bin Haji Besar.

A recital of surah yassin and tahlil was then led by Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Raja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Hj Awang Suhaili bin Hj Mohiddin. A thanksgiving doa was then read by Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Aziz bin Juned.

Worshippers were then led in mass Isyak prayers by Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal. Yesterday's thanksgiving prayers are an annual religious tradition, held in conjunction with His Majesty's birthday celebrations. - Borneo Bulletin (15th July 2010)
