The Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) and Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE) have been placed under the responsibility of the Prime Minister's Office with effect from today.
Dato Paduka Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Apong has been named the new Chairman of BEDB.
The Office of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam said: "By command of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, it is hereby announced that His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has commanded that the Brunei Economic Development Board and the Department of Economic Planning and Development be placed under the responsibility of the Prime Minister's Office.
"In this regard, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has commanded for Yang Mulia Dato Paduka Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Apong, Deputy Minister of Development, to be transferred to the Prime Minister's Office as Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office with a portfolio that includes management of the Brunei Economic Development Board and the Department of Economic Planning and Development and shall be responsible directly to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
"Towards this, His Majesty further commanded that Yang Mulia Dato Paduka Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Apong be hereby appointed as Chairman of the Brunei Economic Development Board to replace Dato Paduka Timothy Ong, Acting Chairman of the Brunei Economic Development Board, whose service with the Board has been terminated with immediate effect.
"The date of the said transfer and appointment is effective from Thursday, 11th Zulhijjah, 1431 corresponding to 18th November, 2010," the statement added.
