Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha yesterday consented to grace the launching of the Cleanliness and Landscape Competition at the Goldstone Ballroom of the Centrepoint Hotel in Gadong.
Accompanying Her Majesty were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Bini Hajah Faizah Dato Haji Nasir, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Noor Ehsani.
The ceremony began with the recital of surah al-fatihah and doa, followed by a welcoming speech by the co-chairman of the competition's working committee, Dyg Hjh Marhani Abd Latif who amongst all noted that in line with the theme "Biology Diversity is Our life", the competition can be made as a platform as well as raise awareness on the importance of looking after the biological diversity and prevent the extinction of greenery species.
She added that clean surroundings without traces of pollution plus beauty and green landscape with biological diversity could promote clean, healthy and comfortable surroundings to stimulate a better living and development.
Her Majesty then consented to present prizes to winners of the various categories of the Cleanliness and Landscape Competition. There were six categories namely Category 1 - Overall Land Village Surroundings; Category 2 - Overall Water Village Surroundings; Category 3 - Secondary and Arabic Secondary Schools Surroundings; Category 4 - Land Primary and Religious Schools Surroundings; Category 5 - Water Village Primary Schools Surroundings; and Category 6 - Petrol Filling Stations Surroundings.
Kg Sengkurong 'B' Mukim Sengkurong, Kg Bolkiah 'A', Jerudong Arabic School, PAP Muta-Wakkilah Hayatul Bolkiah Kg Serusop, Sungai Kebun Primary School and Mar'azmala Petrol Station Kg Jerudong were announced as winners of Category 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 respectively.
Also receiving their prizes from Her Majesty were individual entries in the Orchid Flowers Competition.
After the prize presentation, Her Majesty consented to receive a pesambah and then launched the Live Flower exhibition followed by a tour of the exhibition.
