822 receive honorary medals

Another 822 recipients were bestowed with honorary medals in the third of a series of investiture ceremonies. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam conferred the meritorious service medals, good service and long service medals.

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office represented the monarch at the ceremony held yesterday at the Istana Nurul Iman.

The recipients included government officers and staff, prominent philanthropists, businessmen from the Chinese community and government hospital medical doctors. It was to mark the monarch's recent 64th birthday celebration this year.

Leading the list of some 86 recipients of meritorious service medals (PJK) was Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh King Chin. Another 336 were awarded with good service medals (PIKB) and 430 people with long service medals (PKL).

Present at the ceremony were Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria, Cabinet Ministers, Legislative Council Members, Deputy Ministers and Manteri-Manteri Pedalaman, members of the diplomatic community from friendly nations, permanent secretaries, as well as heads of department.

Andy Lau Sie Chuong, Managing Director of AIFA Sdn Bhd thanked His Majesty for the award and stated that since the year 2000, they have been taking part in festive celebrations. "In 2006, I received PIKB and now I have received PJK," he said.

Pg Hj Tajuddin, an officer from the Ministry of Health who received both PJK and PIKB yesterday also expressed his gratitude to the monarch. - Borneo Bulletin (27th October 2010)
