Audience to UK General

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces, yesterday consented to receive in audience the Chief of General Staff, United Kingdom, General Sir David Richards at the Istana Nurul Iman.

Accompanying General Sir David Richards were the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Major General Hai Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin and British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, Robert Dominic Russell Fenn.

Brunei Darussalam and the United Kingdom first established its defence bilateral cooperation through the Exchange of Notes in September 1983. Since then a number of Memorandum of Understandings have been signed, which enhanced further the defence cooperation between the two countries.

General Sir David Richards is on a four-day official visit aimed to further strengthen the friendly relationship and extend the importance of bilateral military cooperation of both armies. The UK General has been in Brunei since February 1 and will be leaving today. - Borneo Bulletin (4th February 2010)
