Sultan sends condolences to S'pore PM

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday consented to send his condolences to the Singaporean Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, following the passing of his mother, Mdm Kwa Geok Choo, wife to Singapore's Minister Mentor, Lee Kuan Yew.

According to a press release from the Office of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the monarch "expressed his great sadness learning of the death of Mdm Kwa Geok Choo".

After many years of long-standing friendship, His Majesty regarded Mdm Kwa Geok Choo as a "close family friend" and that "her loss will be felt greatly".

The monarch also expressed the "fond memories of her many visits to Brunei Darussalam".

The statement conveyed the monarch's, His Majesty's Government and the people of Brunei Darussalam's "heartfelt condolences" to the Singaporean Premier, members of his family and to the people of Singapore "during this difficult time". - Borneo Bulletin (4th October 2010)
