Prince Malik presents Sultan's contribution to the underprivileged

A total of 1,883 individuals from the Tutong District categorised as underprivileged, orphans, special needs, patients in need of assistance and recipients of the Community Development Department's monthly welfare assistance were overjoyed after receiving His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei's personal contribution.

His Majesty's personal contributions were presented in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations at the Community Hall in the Tutong District.

His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik distributed His Majesty's personal contributions to the various group of recipients.

Three-year-old Dayang Nurmarsha Faharna is one of the youngest to receive His Majesty's contribution. She is categorised as a patient in need of assistance. Since birth, she has been diagnosed with asthma. Without any stable income, her mother, who is a single parent, is facing a tough time. Dayang Nurmarsha Faharna and her mother conveyed their heartfelt appreciation to His Majesty for the personal contributions.

Another recipient, Bungai binti Rambi, an 82-year-old senior citizen, who is categorised under the Community Development Department's monthly welfare assistance, was grateful for His Majesty's generosity. Her adopted daughter Rasmi binti Timbul, helped her mother, who is wheelchair bound, to receive her donations.

"Currently, they are staying at Kg Ukong and don't have any income besides the old pension scheme and welfare assistance from JAPEM," said Rasmi binti Timbul.

Also in attendance were Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Minister of Communications, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, Minister of Home Affairs, Datin Hajah Adina binti Othman, Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports and other senior officials. - Borneo Bulletin (7th September 2010)
