His Majesty meets Vietnam's President & PM

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, yesterday afternoon met separately with Nguyen Minh Triet, President of Vietnam and Nguyen Tan Dung, Prime Minister of Vietnam.

His Majesty first met Nguyen Minh Triet at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi. During discussions, His Majesty congratulated the president and the government of Vietnam for hosting the 16th Asean Summit, and discussed bilateral matters.

His Majesty later met Nguyen Tan Dung at the Government House in Hanoi. During discussions, His Majesty congratulated the premier as the chairman of this year's Asean Summit, and exchanged views on regional and international matters. Also present was His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Brunei Darussalam and Vietnam forged diplomatic relationship in 1992 and Brunei's Embassy opened in Hanoi in December 1995.

His Majesty is currently in Hanoi to attend the Asean Summit. The opening ceremony is scheduled to begin today afternoon at the National Convention Centre.

Following the opening ceremony, His Majesty will also join other heads of state from Asean countries to discuss issues based on accelerating the implementation of the Roadmap for an Asean Community and realisation of the Asean Charter, promoting cooperation in improving regional capacity to address emerging challenges, with an emphasis on economic recovery, sustainable development and climate changes, expanding Asean's external relations, consolidating and enhancing Asean's central role in regional cooperation processes. - Borneo Bulletin (8th April 2010)
