Swearing-in of new judges

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Deputy Sultan, presided over a swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed President of the Court of Appeal and the Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court at Istana Nurul Iman yesterday (see photos).

Also present to bear witness to the swearing-in of the two new senior legal judges was HRH Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah.

YAM Pengiran Penggawa Laila Bentara Istiadat Diraja Dalam Istana Pengiran Haji Alauddin bin Pengiran Paduka Tuan Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, the Grand Chamberlain began the ceremony by reading out the letters of appointment.

Justice John Barry Mortimer recited his oath before the Deputy Sultan as the new President of the Court of Appeal. According to the press release that was issued by the Prime Minister's Office, Justice Mortimer will serve in his post for three years.

Meanwhile, Justice Anthony Rogers VP also recited his oath before the Deputy Sultan as the new non-resident Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court for a period of three-years. - Borneo Bulletin (9th May 2010)
