Royal call for Green ventures

Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha, the Royal Patron of Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam yesterday called upon members of Girl Guides Association to improve the quality of the association by playing an active role in projects such as the current Green venture.

Her Majesty made this observation while delivering a Titah at the Girl Guides Day 2010 at the Royal Berkshire Hall, Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club yesterday.

"I understand the devotion to nature is one of the many activities organised by the association where projects focusing on planting organic local vegetables and fruits take pride of place.

"I believe, this project can become a platform to motivate Girl Guides and Brownies to raise awareness on Green issues and play a role in conserving the environment through agricultural activities."

The Royal Patron of Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam expressed, "Through projects devoted to nature, Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam has the opportunity to work together to provide assitance and cooperation to the government not only in tackling environmental issues but more importantly health issues such as obesity among students."

Her Majesty also expressed her confidence that Girl Guides Association would continue to implement welfare projects in future so as to remain relevant over time.

Accompanying Her Majesty yesterday were Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah, HRH Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hjh Zariah, HRH Princess Hjh Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah, HRH Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah, HRH Princess Hjh Masna and YAM Pengiran bini Hajah Faizah.

Her Majesty presented the WAGGGS Asia Pacific Award to five reciepients namely HRH Princess Hjh Masna, Datin Paduka Hajah Zaharah binti Hj Idris, Datin Paduka Hajah Jusnani binti Hj Lawie, Datin Hajah Masni binti Hj Ali, Datin Paduka Hajah Norsiah binti Hj Mohd Daud.

Her Majesty also presented Bronze Long Service badges (10 years) to Pengian Hajah Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Kamarudin, Dayang Norliham binti Hj Tuah, Dayang Norazrina binti Hj Sarbini, Dayang Hajah Nurulainiah binti Hj Abdul Halim and Dayang Izrina binti Md Tahir.

Meanwhile, certificates of appreciation were presented to six schools namely Raja Isteri Anak Damit Secondary Religious School, Sekolah Tinggi Perempuan Raja Isteri, Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Hassan, Sekolah Rendah Rimba II, Sekolah Rendah Kampong Mata-Mata and Sekolah Rendah Sultan Bubin.

Before concluding the ceremony, Her Majesty consented to cut a cake to mark the 2010 Girl Guides Day. - Borneo Bulletin (9th October 2010)
