Crown Prince fetes victorious cyclists

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's office consented to present plaques and leaders' jerseys to the winners of the fifth and final stage of Butra HeidelbergCement Tour de Brunei 2011 at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Shopping Complex in the capital yesterday.

Upon arrival, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince was greeted by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awang Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah; Minister of Industry and Primary Resources cum Patron of Brunei Darussalam Cycling Federation, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Hj Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar and Deputy Minister Culture, Youth and Sports, Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Haji Othman.

Also present at the ceremony yesterday were Permanent Secretary and Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dato Paduka Awang Hj Mohd Hamid Hj Mohd Jaafar and Awang Hj Ismail Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Setia Dato Paduka Hj Hashim; Managing Director of Butra HeidelbergCement Sdn Bhd, Marcelino Ugarte; Brunei Tourism Director, Sheikh Jamaluddin Sheikh Mohamed; Acting Director of Youth and Sports Awang Hj Abdul Malik Hj Mohammad; President of Brunei Darussalam Cycling Federation, Hj Rosli Hj Mohiddin and senior officers from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and Butra HeidelbergCement Sdn Bhd.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince also consented to receive a pesambah presented by the Managing Director of Butra HeidelbergCement Sdn Bhd, Marcelino Ugarte.

Earlier, the final race, covering a distance of 146.5km, was officiated by the Managing Director of Butra HeidelbergCement Sdn Bhd and the flag off took place in front of TAIB Headquarters in Jalan Sultan in the capital.

Tabriz Petrochemical Team rider Makekimizan Ramin from Iran emerged champion of the Stage 5 race clocking a time of 3:37:32 while Shinichi Fukushima of Terengganu Pro-Asia Cycling Team and Phuchong Sai-Udomsin of Thailand National Cycling Team finished second and third place respectively.

Winners of the leaders' jerseys are Muhamad Adiq Husainie Othman from Malaysia National Cycling Team (White jersey), Lloyd Lucien Reynante of 7-Eleven-RST Racing (Red jersey), Mohamed Harrif Salleh of Terengganu Pro-Asia Cycling Team (Green jersey) and Shinichi Fukushima of Terengganu Pro-Asia Cycling Team won the Yellow jersey.

Tabriz Petrochemical Team from Iran won the Team General Classification (time) clocking 45:28:45. - Borneo Bulletin (11th September 2011)
