His Majesty sends message of condolence to Japan

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to send a message of condolence to His Imperial Majesty Emperor Akihito of Japan and Prime Minister Naoto Kan, following the earthquake and tsunami that struck north-east Japan.

In the message to His Imperial Majesty Emperor Akihito, His Majesty stated that he was deeply saddened and shocked to learn of the many lives lost and the widespread damage caused by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that struck north-east Japan on Friday.

His Majesty also conveyed his deepest personal condolences and the sympathies of His Government and the people of Brunei Darussalam to His Imperial Majesty Emperor Akihito and the government and people of Japan, particularly to the families of the victims and all those affected by this disaster.

In a similar message to Japan Premier Mr Naoto Kan, His Majesty expressed his great shock and sadness upon learning of the loss of life and considerable damage caused by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami.

His Majesty and the people of Brunei Darussalam extended their deepest condolences to him, the government and people of Japan and also conveyed the thoughts and sympathies of His Majesty and the people of Brunei Darussalam to the bereaved families and all those affected by the disaster during this very difficult time. - Borneo Bulletin (13th March 2011)
