Crown Prince visits RTB Complex in Sungai Akar

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office visited Radio Television Brunei (RTB) Complex in Sungai Akar, yesterday.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince was welcomed upon arrival by Minister of Finance II at the Prime Minister's Office Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, Permanent Secretaries at the Prime Minister's Office Dato Paduka Awang Haji Omar bin Haji Abdul Rahman and Pengiran Haji Abdul Haris bin Pengiran Haji Shabudin. Also present to greet HRH was Acting Director of RTB, Pengiran Haji Mahari bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rajak.

The morning working visit, apart from motovating the staff was to support His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's efforts in ensuring that government agencies are always sensitive and responsive to the current developments in attaining peace and security in the nation.

It commenced with a briefing session delivered by Pg Haji Mahari pertaining to the functions and development of Brunei's television and radio stations at the Al-Himmah Meeting Room on the ground floor of the broadcasting complex.

His Royal Highness, during the briefing, was heard expressing his concern on the advantages and implications of digital migration from analogue system whilst also querying on the steps taken by RTB towards increasing its revenue.

The Crown Prince was also given a tour of the building and was briefed on the types of broadcasting activities that are currently taking place at the modern complex as well as the government agency's future development plans.

His Royal Highness was shown the divisions of New Media, Post Production and Playout Centre and observed closely the digital operation and handling by RTB followed by a visit to the Production Studio Gallery where His Royal Highness toured Studio 4 to witness a television programme rehearsal.

His Royal Highness also visited a mini exhibition showcasing the history of RTB's transmission, technical equipment and television channels.

A presentation on RTB's Phase 3 building expansion project, due to be completed by 2014 and expected to be in operation by 2015, as part of the 9th National Development Plan was delivered by Project Coordinator Koh Thian Chan.

Prior to the end of the visit, RTB personnel and staff were given the opportunity to take photographs with His Royal Highness at the building's lobby prior to HRH signing a commemorative parchment.
