Royalty at Merimbun Cross Country Championship

The Tasek Merimbun Consultative Council yesterday organised the Merimbun Cross-Country Championship 2011 in Kampong Tasek Merimbun, Tutong District.

A total of 110 participants competed in five categories; Category 'A' for male veterans aged 41 years and above; Category 'B' for male adults between the ages of 31 and 40; Category 'C' male open for those between the ages of 18 and 30 years; Category 'D' for male between the ages of 13 and 17 years; and Category E open for female participants 16 years old and above.

Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bolkiah and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Mu'min were among the participants at the event. Also present was the Tutong District Officer, Awang Haji Mohd Suffian bin Haji Bungsu.

Category A and E participants ran a distance of five kilometres in one lap, while Category B and D participants ran a distance of eight kilometres in two laps. Category C participants, meanwhile, ran 11 kilometres in three laps.

Prizes to the winners were presented by the Head of the Tutong Youth and Sports Department, Hj Md Rosfazillah bin Hj Yusly.

The event aimed to give the participants the opportunity to test their agility and to participate in healthy activities apart from strengthening relations as well as occupying their time with useful activities during the school holidays. - Borneo Bulletin (21st March 2011)
