Sultan in talks with Yudhoyono

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam held a bilateral meeting with Dato Laila Utama Dr Hj Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, yesterday.

During the meeting, His Majesty and the president exchanged views on bilateral relations and regional issues of mutual concern. The two leaders also discussed various efforts to further strengthen relationship between the two countries.

Brunei had previously granted Indonesia two Waspada-class patrol boats, which are currently sailing towards Java, Jakarta Post reported.

"In the meeting, the president conveyed his gratitude for the granting of two Waspada Navy boats," Presidential Special Staff for International Relations Teuku Faizasyah said after the meeting.

"We gave assurances that the boats would be used to improve security in the region," he said.

Faziasyah added that the president, accompanied by several of his ministers, had also thanked the Brunei Government for its positive reception of Indonesian workers in Brunei.

There are currently thousands of Indonesian workers in Brunei.

"We want to see the successful management of Indonesian migrant workers in Brunei serve as a model in our interactions with other countries that receive our workers," Faizasyah said.

Also present at the bilateral meeting were Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Hj Awg Isa bin Pehin Datu Perdana Manteri Dato Laila Utama Hj Awg Ibrahim, Speaker of the Legislative Council; Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Hj Awg Abu Bakar bin Hj Apong, Minister of Education; Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Awg Lim Jock Seng, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II; and Dato Paduka Brigadier General (Rtd) Hj Mahmud bin Hj Saidin, Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of Indonesia.

Before leaving for the Presidential Palace, His Majesty consented to receive in audience Prof Dr (Ir) Purnomo Yusgiantoro, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia.

Also present at the audience were Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Awg Lim Jock Seng and Dato Paduka Brigadier General (Rtd) Hj Mahmud. - Borneo Bulletin (22nd April 2011)
