Crown Prince attends opening of 66th UN General Debate

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, as the personal representative of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended the opening of the General Debate for the 66th Session of the United Nations General Assembly at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, based on the theme 'The role of mediation in the settlement of disputes'.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince later attended a luncheon hosted by the United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, in honour of heads of states and governments participating in the 66th Session of the General Assembly.

While at the 66th Session of the General Assembly, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince also had a meeting with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi. Among issues discussed were the opportunity for establishing cooperation between both countries and the exchange views on regional and international matters.

Accompanying His Royal Highness the Crown Prince during the opening of the General Debate for the 66th Session of the General Assembly and meeting was Prince Abdul Qawi. Also accompanying the Crown Prince were the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II, Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Awang Lim Jock Seng and Permanent Representative of Brunei Darussalam to the United Nations in New York, Latif bin Tuah.

Later on in the day, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and HRH Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah attended a reception hosted by the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, and Mrs Michelle Obama in recognition of the 66th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, which took place at the New York Public Library.

On arrival at the reception, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Her Royal Highness were greeted by President Barack Obama and Mrs Michelle Obama. Accompanying His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Her Royal Highness during the reception was Permanent Representative of Brunei Darussalam to the United Nations, New York, Latif bin Tuah. - Borneo Bulletin (23rd September 2011)
