Crown Prince graces Premier Forum at ICC

His Royal Highness Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and the Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office yesterday graced the Premier Forum for the Knowledge Convention 2011.

The forum was held at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.

Accompanying His Royal Highness the Crown Prince was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik.

The Crown Prince was greeted on arrival by Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yusoff bin Haji Ismail, Deputy Education Minister cum Chairman of the Premier Forum of Knowledge Convention 2011 along with other members of the committee.

This year, the Premier Forum brought a broader discussion on this year's theme 'Education Shaping the Nation's Identity'.

Dato Haji Yusoff in his welcoming remarks said, the Premier Forum will enhance the vital core of education in shaping and moulding the nation's identity and personality in accordance with Brunei Darussalam's context. In the forum, the panel discussed how the concept of Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB) or the Malay Islamic Monarchy concept was the core identity of our nation.

Dato Haji Yusoff further highlighted that there is a need to balance the education system emphasising on both secular and religious education.

In yesterday's Premier Forum, three experts were invited as panellists, Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, the former Education Minister; Professor Dr Abdul Rashid bin Mohammad, Dean of the Institute of Educational Studies from University of Science Malaysia and Associate Professor Dr Mastura Badzis from Institute of Education, International Islamic University Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Dr Haji Junaidi bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education acted as the moderator for the forum.

The Premier Forum was being telecast live at the four districts and was watched by a gathering at the community hall in respective districts.

The live telecast aimed to give an opportunity to those who were unable to attend the Knowledge Convention 2011 which was held at ICC, Berakas to participate.

The three days of Knowledge Convention 2011 had gathered five local and foreign experts in discussing related topics according to this year's theme 'Education Shaping the Nation's Identity'. - Borneo Bulletin (29th July 2011)
